Swedish School of Textiles Showcases Student Work at Copenhagen Fashion Week

During Copenhagen Fashion Week, the Swedish School of Textiles presented work by twenty-two students from Borås, Sweden, a former textile hub, to an international audience. The showcase highlighted diverse inspirations and techniques. Tuula Wallace applied Danish furniture-making techniques to fashion design, while Maya Naomi, from Zambia, aimed to integrate traditional methods and materials into fashion, and Charity Egbudiwe combined Nigerian wrapping with Victorian references for dramatic silhouettes. Elias Evertsson and Lara Ströbe referenced running in their collections, and Vivian Grum focused on hiking, reflecting Nordic nature culture. Ebba Carlson Persson incorporated LED lights, drawing on Sweden's tech start-up scene. Iris Phillips pursued a harder edge with military-inspired designs, as did Cajsa Torstensson, a former Dilara Findikoglu intern, whose nail-spiked clothes had sonic and tactile properties. Sally Bjerre Gaarde created a non-woven tweed lace suit inspired by a 1925 Chanel design, with an airy quality reminiscent of Matthieu Blazy. Bjerre Gaarde described her approach as observational research that becomes personal through her hands and perspectives. Amber de Goede's playful paper dolls were noted for their topicality and execution, coinciding with the upcoming 'Doll Dressing' exhibition at the Museum at FIT.
