Swedish artists propose Eternal Employment as public artwork
Swedish artist duo Simon Goldin and Jakob Senneby have proposed 'Eternal Employment' for the new Korsvägen railway station in Gothenburg, Sweden, set to open by 2026. Instead of a tangible artwork, they offer a full-time, permanent job paying 21,600 SEK (€2,032) per month with annual 3.2% raises for 120 years. The employee may do whatever they wish, including nothing, challenging notions of work, productivity, and progress. The project was selected by the Swedish Transport Administration and Public Art Agency Sweden. A changing room and a clock connected to fluorescent lights will be installed at the station, illuminating when the employee is present. Applications are open until 2025.
