Swab Barcelona 2026 Reimagines Art Value Through Social and Collective Lenses
Swab Barcelona's 19th edition, running from October 8 to 11, 2026, at the Pabellón de Arte Textil of Fira Montjuïc, proposes a reinterpretation of art's value beyond market logic, emphasizing social, symbolic, and collective dimensions. Director Carolina Díez-Cascón frames the fair as a platform balancing artistic creation and market, reinforcing culture as a critical and shared space amid violence and dehumanization. New program OFF-Site activates mobile, reused, or disused urban spaces for flexible, situated art practices. Curatorial program Polar and Tropic continues connecting independent spaces from the Nordic region and Southeast Asia, now incorporating local initiatives, with public programming including talks, radio (Station of Commons), posters (Lumbung Press), and workshops. Vortex, curated by Lena Solà, maintains its dual cohabitation format pairing Spanish and Latin American galleries. The General Program gathers galleries and independent spaces to blur hierarchies. MYFAF, a non-profit initiative by Fundació Swab Barcelona, offers three free stands to galleries under two years old for their first international fair experience.
