Svay Sareth Wins Overall Best Emerging Artist at 2016 Prudential Eye Awards

Svay Sareth, a Cambodian sculptor and installation artist, secured the Overall Best Emerging Artist title at the 2016 Prudential Eye Awards for Contemporary Asian Art. He received a US$30,000 cash prize and an exhibition opportunity at London's Saatchi Gallery later in the year. The awards ceremony occurred during the opening of Art Stage Singapore from January 21 to 24. An accompanying exhibition at the ArtScience Museum showcases works by all 15 shortlisted artists and runs through March 27. Launched in 2014, these awards recognize early-career Asian artists working across five mediums. Category winners each received $20,000. In sculpture and the overall category, Svay Sareth was honored. Trinh Thi Nguyen won for digital/video, Manish Nai for painting, Huang Po Chih for installation, and Shumon Ahmed for photography. The event highlights emerging talent from across Asia.
