Suzhou Museum of Contemporary Art by BIG to Open in 2026 with 'Materialism' Exhibition
The Suzhou Museum of Contemporary Art, created by Bjarke Ingels Group alongside Arts Group and Front Inc, is scheduled to open in 2026 near Jinji Lake in Suzhou. Spanning 60,000 square meters, the museum will consist of 12 pavilions under a sweeping roof, designed with curved glass and steel to reflect the area’s natural scenery. To coincide with the launch, BIG will hold an exhibition called 'Materialism' that explores architectural styles. In other news, Dylan Seh-Jin Kim has been named the Emerging Curator for Protocinema for 2025-26, with a New York showcase planned for early 2026. On November 6, Yoshiko Mori was honored with an OBE from King Charles III in Tokyo for her efforts in enhancing UK-Japan cultural relations. The Sharjah Art Foundation opened its Photography Gallery on November 8, featuring 'Image Keepers' and a permanent display, 'Photographic Encounters along the Gulf Coasts,' part of Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi's collection. Anish Kapoor is considering legal action against US Border Patrol agents regarding their conduct near his Cloud Gate sculpture in Chicago. Lastly, Serakai Studio is launching its salon space GOLD in Wong Chuk Hang, Hong Kong, in March 2026, with an opening exhibition called 'Certainly.'
