Suzanne Anker Curates Neuroscience Exhibition at William Paterson University

exhibition · 2026-04-22

From January 30 to March 9, 2012, Suzanne Anker curated and took part in the exhibition titled "Cerebral Spirits: Stalking the Self" at the William Paterson University Galleries in New Jersey. This showcase included eight artists who examined the impact of neuroscience on visual arts, delving into concepts such as memory and hallucination. Anker's contribution featured parachutes, silver-leafed figures, and brain-inspired sculptures, along with a video that juxtaposed a brain cross-section with a butterfly. The lineup of artists also comprised Phil Buehler, Frank Gillette, Michael Rees, Richard Dupont, Jeanne Silverthorne, Thomas Eller, and Katy Schimert. Anker mentioned that this marked her third exhibition related to neuroscience, following "Fundamentally Human" at Istanbul's Pera Museum. She leads the Fine Arts program at SVA and founded a Nature and Technology Lab in 2012.
