exhibition · 2026-04-20

From 8 February to 1 April 2018, the Sustainable Futures exhibition took place at Sirius Arts Centre in Cobh, Ireland, showcasing the work of Irish artists Fiona Kelly, Méadhbh O’Connor, Sarah Lincoln, and David Thomas Smith. Set against Cobh's historical context, the exhibition tackled environmental themes. Kelly incorporated waste materials in her pieces To Be Considered (2017) and The Distillation of Detritus (2017). O’Connor presented Biosystem IV (2018), featuring suspended orbs of moss and air plants. Lincoln's ceramics, Skin Contact (2017) and Digit (2017), delved into the origins of the earth. Smith's Anthropocene series included works such as 1000 Chrysler Dr and Silicon Valley (2009–10). The exhibition was reviewed in ArtReview's April 2018 issue, encouraging contemplation on sustainability in artistic practices.
