Suspected Irish crime boss Daniel Kinahan extradited from Dubai to Dublin

Daniel Kinahan, a 49-year-old alleged crime leader from Ireland, has been extradited from Dubai to Ireland to confront charges related to leading an organized crime syndicate. He is accused of orchestrating a global drug trafficking and money-laundering network with activities spanning the UK, Spain, and the US. On Sunday evening, an Irish Air Corps aircraft arrived at a military facility near Dublin after UAE courts denied attempts to prevent his extradition. Kinahan will likely appear before the Special Criminal Court in Dublin, which adjudicates organized crime and terrorism cases without a jury, before being detained at Portlaoise Prison, located approximately 145km southwest of the capital. A significant security operation is in effect, involving armed police, military forces, and a newly acquired bombproof escort vehicle. This heightened security follows reports of a violent conflict between the Kinahan Organized Crime Group and another Irish gang, leading to multiple murders, including those of innocent bystanders, as noted by the US Treasury Department, which imposed sanctions on Kinahan and his associates in 2022.
