Susanna Pozzoli's Photographic Journey Inside Meret Oppenheim's Home

publication · 2026-04-27

Susanna Pozzoli's book "Un'estate con Meret Oppenheim" (Manfredi Edizioni, 2021) offers an intimate photographic exploration of Casa Costanza, the Carona, Switzerland home of the late Surrealist artist Meret Oppenheim (1913-1985). The house, owned by the Wenger family since 1917, was where Oppenheim spent her childhood summers and later transformed into a Gesamtkunstwerk with architect Aurelio Galfetti after her parents' deaths in 1967. Pozzoli's images capture details and traces of the still-inhabited home, including a mummified mouse turned into a Vanitas figure by Oppenheim. The volume includes annotations from family members, architect Galfetti, curator Bice Curiger, and art historian Barbara Stehle. The book is the first in a series dedicated to emerging artists by Manfredi Edizioni with the VAF Foundation.
