Surveillance-themed performance 'Machines of Loving Grace' disrupts 56th Venice Biennale opening

During the 2015 Venice Biennale, the performance titled 'Machines of Loving Grace' was featured in the collateral event 'Jump into the Unknown', curated by Nine Dragon Heads. This piece, inspired by Edward Snowden's disclosures about surveillance, showcased a modified Venetian boat and six performers acting as surveillance agents, directed through CB radio by artists to reveal the futility of state authority. Danish artist Magnus Clausen published 'Black Flag', outlining citizens' rights when arrested in 90 countries participating in the Biennale. An 'all-seeing eye' flag was prominently displayed outside Palazzo Loredan. The performance resulted in police interventions, including a 30-minute ID verification, and addressed protests regarding the poor working conditions faced by construction workers at Guggenheim Abu Dhabi.
