Sur papier at MUSEC Lugano: Four Women Artists in Dialogue

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The MUSEC – Museo delle Culture in Lugano presents 'Sur papier', a group exhibition curated by Marco Franciolli and Antonia Nessi. The show brings together four contemporary women artists from diverse backgrounds: Swiss Francine Mury, Chinese Mingjun Luo and Jiang Zuqing, and Israeli musician Sivan Eldar. The exhibition originates from the encounter between Mury and Jiang Zuqing, who collaborated on large ink-on-paper paintings during Mury's stay in China. Their works, created directly on the floor of the Beijing Academy studio, explore gesture, body, and materiality. The catalogue includes essays and writings by Mury, who describes her discovery of ancient Chinese literati painters in the late 1980s. The exhibition blends tradition and modernity, East and West, through a display where two-dimensional and three-dimensional elements merge.
