Superstudio Returns to Milan Design Week with 'Only the Best' Curation

festival-fair · 2026-05-04

For the 2018 edition of Milan Design Week, Superstudio presents 'Only the Best' as the theme for its Superdesign Show, aiming to counter the banality of excessive offerings during Fuorisalone. The event features a reduced number of exhibitors with stronger proposals, marking a shift from previous years. A major highlight is the return of Giulio Cappellini as art director, collaborating again with co-founder Gisella Borioli. Cappellini's 'Superloft' installation presents a domestic setting mixing products from top Italian brands, described as a 'house of today and tomorrow' with a reasoned chaos. Two exhibitions focus on Japanese design: a monographic show on Nendo studio led by Oki Sato, titled 'Nendo: forms of movements', featuring sketches and prototypes; and 'Homage to Shirō', honoring the late Japanese designer Shirō Kuramata, whose work Cappellini once published. Architect Kengo Kuma creates an installation for Dassault Systèmes using a material that filters air pollutants. 'Egyptian Design – A House on the Nile' showcases Egyptian furniture producers. The 'Smart City: Materials, Technologies & People' exhibition, curated by Giulio Ceppi for Material Connexion Italia, runs until May 12 and highlights sustainable solutions in materials, infrastructure, waste management, and data collection.
