Supermostra22: itinerant architecture exhibition across Italy

architecture-design · 2026-04-27

Supermostra22, an itinerant architecture exhibition featuring 22 Italian designers, has concluded its first leg at Casa dell’Architettura in Rome. The initiative, curated by Luigi Prestinenza Puglisi and Ilaria Olivieri, will travel to Bari, Catania, and Venice. Its title echoes the 1966 Superarchitettura show by Archizoom and Superstudio, but unlike that one-off event, Supermostra is a recurring annual observatory of Italian architectural research. The number 22 indicates the year, with editions planned for 2023 and beyond. The exhibition includes a dedicated Instagram page and a catalog published by LetteraVentidue. Key themes emerging from the selected projects include Matter, Well-being, Balance, and Happiness, reflecting a shift from the movement and dissonance of the 1990s toward a search for stability. The curators argue that architecture cannot be reduced to sustainability or greenwashing. Notable works include BERGMEISTERWOLF's Tagliato Villa Ts in Montagna (BZ) and AMAART – Alessia Maggio's restyling of Valle Aurelia railway station in Rome.
