Superlab: Milan's Horizontal Skyscraper Blends Industrial Heritage with Art and Sustainability

In Milan's Bicocca district, Superlab has emerged as a cutting-edge 'horizontal skyscraper' dedicated to sustainability, innovation, and contemporary art. This five-story structure, which encompasses 6,500 square meters (including one underground level), is a transformation of the old Breda offices, retaining the steel framework while introducing glass facades, rubber finishes, and a green roof. Designed by Balance Architettura, it incorporates recycled materials, carbon-neutral energy, and rainwater harvesting, aiming for LEED Gold certification. The venue was officially opened on September 29, 2022, during Milano Green Week, featuring guided tours and an environmental art exhibit, 'Medium Color Landscape,' curated by Francesca Canfora, showcasing works from 13 artists until October 16. Additionally, it includes a custom font by Bellissimo and a showroom by Erco, displaying paintings by Ismaele Nones, a notable artist recognized at ArtVerona 2021 and Premio Combat 2022. Superlab aspires to be a center for innovative startups and companies, with a public hall accessible to the community.
