Superinternet.space: 48-hour collective meme performance documented

digital · 2026-05-04

The collective Clusterduck, in collaboration with Greencube Gallery, launched #MEMEPROPAGANDA in May 2018, a project exploring the communicative power of memes through physical flyers distributed worldwide and an online forum. The final event took place on June 29, 2018, in a multiplayer drawing space called superinternet.space, developed by Pietro Parisi of the Superinternet collective. Initially planned for 2 hours, the performance lasted over 48 hours due to massive participation. The secret URL was first shared via private Facebook chats to about 100 people from Clusterduck and Greencube networks, then expanded to Reddit threads, Discord servers, Facebook groups, and finally 4chan. The different communities created distinct phases alternating between chaos and cooperation. The time-lapse video shows a remix of internet imagery including Pepe the Frog, Gondola, Nicolas Cage, Potato Jesus, Troll Face, and Pikachu. After 48 hours, participants collaboratively drew a lunar landscape, described by Clusterduck as a miracle of cooperation. The project aimed to transcend the opposition between normies and self-proclaimed autistics, blending avant-garde traditions with online subcultures.
