Superfluo's 'Habitat Milano N.0' maps Milan's fashion tribes through 12 district archetypes

publication · 2026-04-26

The Italian collective Superfluo, founded in 2020 by visual artist Andrea Cancellieri (Segrate, 1988) and Gianluca Gramolazzi, releases its first print publication 'Habitat Milano N.0' next week. The limited-edition editorial project analyzes dress codes across Milan's metropolitan area by dividing the city into twelve zones, each represented by an emblematic character reflecting local fashion inclinations. The project argues that clothing choices are less about personal expression and more about implicit or explicit social structures—the human instinct to belong to a 'pack.' The 29 contributors include trend forecaster Marta Gianotti (art direction), illustrator Tulpess (who designed the tights for character Artzy), and collaborations with brands Calcetto Eleganza and Sudditalia. The map's boundaries were verified with architects and urbanists, as zone borders are updated annually. Characters include masks of power, influencer, aesthetic beauty, and social redemption, drawn from real residents of those areas. The project cites Clarice Lispector on masks and aims to generate awareness rather than judgment. Superfluo plans to expand the project to other cities, with a proposal already received from Tokyo.
