Superflex's One Two Three Swing! Opens at Tate Modern Turbine Hall

exhibition · 2026-05-05

The Danish collective Superflex has unveiled One Two Three Swing!, a participatory installation at the Tate Modern's Turbine Hall in London. The work, part of the Hyundai Commission series, features a system of orange swings connected by a tube, designed to generate collective movement through visitor participation. The installation explores three states: apathy, production, and movement. A large pendulum hangs over a 770-square-meter carpet inspired by British coinage, while a factory-like area assembles swing seats. The swings, once activated, create oscillations intended to spread social energy beyond the gallery. Superflex, founded in 1993 by Bjørnstjerne Christiansen, Jakob Fenger, and Rasmus Nielsen, is known for its 'tools'—works that critique socio-political structures through audience interaction. The commission opened during Frieze Week and runs until April 2, 2018.
