Super Walls: Venice biennial uses anti-smog paint for street art

Super Walls, the first biennial of sustainable street art, will take place from June 6 to 16, 2019, in Padua and Abano Terme, Italy. Ten Italian and four French artists will paint 20 murals using Airlite paint, a technology that purifies the air by eliminating nitrogen oxides, benzene, and formaldehyde when activated by light. Twelve square meters of painted surface can offset the pollution produced by one car in a day. The festival is organized by the cultural departments of Padua and Abano Terme, the CIMI cultural association, and the city of Rennes, as part of the Air is Art nonprofit project led by Kristen Grove and Antonio Cianci, CEO of Airlite. Curated by gallerist Carlo Silvestrin and art critic Dominique Stella, the event aims to revitalize peripheral and industrial neighborhoods. Artists include Axe, Alessio-b, Boogie, Joys, Made514, Orion, Peeta, Roulè, Tony Gallo, Yama, and the French crew from La Cremerie (Gloar, Fortune, Mya, Hayku). Locations include an old cinema and private condominiums. Future plans include a similar event in Rennes in October and a connection with the Venice Biennale.
