Supaform Studio Blends Yugoslav Brutalism with Japanese Listening Bar in Belgrade

architecture-design · 2026-04-29

Paris-based Supaform Studio has transformed a corner of Belgrade into EJE, a multidisciplinary venue for the Esthetic Joys Embassy that merges Yugoslav brutalism with the intimacy of a Japanese listening bar. The project is anchored by a reinterpretation of the K67 kiosk, designed by Saša Mächtig in 1966, with the DJ booth serving as a dreamlike homage. At the heart of the venue are vintage JBL 4435 studio monitors and a curated vinyl library, emphasizing high-fidelity sound. Custom seating includes sofas upholstered in original London Underground District line moquette designed by Misha Black, and six Ichiran-style booths with headphones for private listening. The kitchen, led by chef Katsuhiko Kobayashi, serves Yoshoku cuisine such as bisque ramen and hambagu. EJE functions as a disco bar, hotel, and sonic lounge, reflecting a global trend of concept-driven listening bars like Onda in Milan and Ganko feat. Milan.
