Summer auctions in Milan: Mediartrade, Cambi, and Sotheby's post strong results

Summer auctions in Milan from July 6-13, 2021, yielded strong results for Mediartrade, Cambi, and Sotheby's, driven by high demand for both modern and contemporary works. Mediartrade's July 7 sale at Via Marco Polo 9 featured 100 international lots, with Georges Mathieu's 'Composition' (1959) leading at €263,600. Alighiero Boetti's 'Aerei' (1983) sold for €175,100, while Enrico Castellani's 'La superficie grigia' (1991) reached €192,800. Cambi's July 8 auction at Via San Marco 22 offered Italian early 20th-century and contemporary art; all eleven lots by Ugo Celada Da Virgilio sold above estimates. Antonio Ligabue's 'Ritratto di Elba' (1935) fetched €85,000, and Leonardo Cremonini's 'Le pecore insieme' (1960) soared from €3,000 to €21,000. Sotheby's online 'Contemporary Curated Milan' sale (July 6-13), curated by Anna Dello Russo, featured Mathieu's 'L'espace éclaté' (1990) at €252,000. Aboudia's 'La Victoire' (2016) achieved €88,200 against a €15,000 low estimate, and Massimo Campigli's 'Spiaggia /Donne sulla Spiaggia' (1954) tripled its estimate to €94,500.
