Summer 2025 Archaeological Discoveries: Tombs, Mausoleums, and Sunken Cities
During the summer of 2025, Italy and the Mediterranean witnessed remarkable archaeological finds. In the Monterozzi necropolis of Tarquinia, an undisturbed chamber tomb dating back to the late 8th century BCE was uncovered, showcasing the region's oldest painted artwork. Meanwhile, the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa revealed a medieval courtroom and gymnasium at Segesta. On the island of Mozia, a team from the University of Palermo, headed by Paola Sconzo, unearthed a female marble statue from the late Archaic era.
