Summer 2017 Exhibition Highlights Across Asia and Beyond

Park Chan-kyong's solo exhibition '安寧 Farewell' at Kukje Gallery in Seoul runs through 2 July, featuring his three-channel video Citizen's Forest (2016) which explores tradition, modernity, and historical memory. Dark Mofo, Mona's two-week festival in Tasmania from 8–21 June, includes Hermann Nitsch's controversial 150. Action performance and screenings of Evgeny Mitta's documentary on Pussy Riot. 'Self-Criticism' at Beijing's Inside-Out Museum continues through 17 September, curated by Carol Yinghua Lu, Luo Xiaoming, and Su Wei with artists like Rong Guang Rong and Simon Leung. Ashish Avikunthak presents his film Aapothkalin Trikalika (2016) at Chatterjee & Lal in Mumbai from 27 June to 22 July. Raqib Shaw's exhibition at Manchester's Whitworth Art Gallery from 24 June to November features works blending Eastern and Western traditions, with plans to travel to the Dhaka Art Summit in February 2018. 'Sunshower: Contemporary Art from Southeast Asia 1980s to Now' at Tokyo's National Art Center and Mori Art Museum from 5 July to 23 October includes 86 artists, marking ASEAN's 50th anniversary. The 15th Istanbul Biennial, titled 'A Good Neighbour' and curated by Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset, runs from 16 September to 12 November at various venues in Istanbul. Sutthirat Supaparinya and Yuan Keru exhibit at Leo Gallery in Shanghai through 22 July, with works addressing transport and technology.
