Sui Network Experiences Third Transaction Halt in 48 Hours

On May 29, 2026, Sui Network faced its third transaction processing issue in just two days, caused by a problem during an epoch transition that temporarily stopped user transactions on the mainnet. This followed attempts to fix a gas-charging bug from the v1.72 update. The first disruption occurred on May 28 at 07:15 PDT and lasted nearly six hours until a significant portion of stakeholders upgraded to the patch. A second issue arose on May 29 at 08:43 PDT, halting block production for about 3.5 hours. The final disruption happened at 13:57 PDT during the epoch transition due to a bug affecting randomness initialization. By 19:32 PDT, the network had moved to epoch 1143 and resumed transactions, but validator involvement remained low. Sui has yet to provide a detailed analysis of the incidents, leaving questions about whether they were due to security flaws or design issues. These disruptions affected token transfers and various DeFi operations. At that time, SUI's trading price fluctuated between $0.090 and $0.92, with a total value locked in DeFi of $527.91 million and a stablecoin market cap of $459.25 million. This incident followed Sui's announcement of gasless stablecoin transfers just days earlier on May 20.
