Süden Radio: Sound Art Symposium in Florence Explores New Geographies of Sound

Süden Radio, a symposium on new geographies of sound, will take place from April 20 to 22 at Villa Romana in Florence. Organized by Radio Papesse, the three-day event aims to investigate sound as a tool for understanding the world from a Southern perspective, as well as a platform for reappropriation, reterritorialization, and legitimation, without reducing it to mere geographical references. The symposium will focus on emerging sound geographies in the Southern Mediterranean, Africa, and the Middle East. Speakers include curator Leandro Pisano, artistic director Simone Frangi, art historian Lucrezia Cippitelli, co-curator Anna Raimondo, artist Claudia Wegener, artist Emeka Ogboh (participant in Documenta 14 and upcoming Skulptur Projekte Münster), sound artist Fari Bradley, director Golo Foellmer, project manager Andrea Borgnino, sound artist Chloé Despax, and anthropologist Iain Chambers. Radio Papesse, a web radio founded in 2006 at Palazzo delle Papesse Centro Arte Contemporanea in Siena, has been based at Villa Romana since 2011.
