Stylus Architects digs down for new South London house Green Lodge
Matthew Withers and his team at Stylus Architects have finalized Green Lodge, a family residence in Roehampton, South London, which replaces former outbuildings behind a Victorian property. To improve its environmental efficiency, the majority of the living spaces are situated below street level, maintaining a single-storey appearance. The design incorporates living areas on the ground floor, while three bedrooms are located below, benefiting from dual south-facing courtyards and lightwells for natural light. These bedrooms feature a shared bathroom equipped with a Lusso Stone tub. The ground level boasts high ceilings, engineered wood flooring, and a custom oak and steel staircase. The house, measuring 175 sqm, is finished with larch cladding and utilizes photovoltaic panels along with an air source heat pump for reduced energy consumption.
