Stylt Trampoli AB's Extreme Hospitality: From Arctic Hotels to AI-Driven Design
The Swedish multidisciplinary agency Stylt Trampoli AB, founded in 1988 by creative director Erik Nissen Johansen, has completed over 400 restaurants and 250 hotels worldwide, known for eclectic, narrative-driven interiors. Recent projects include the Pater Noster lighthouse hotel on a remote Swedish island, which won the AHEAD Global Awards 2022 for Best New Concept, and the Niekhu Mountain Villa in Riksgränsen, Sweden, a UNESCO Prix Versailles winner. Johansen spoke at Connective Intelligence, a Rome event series curated by Isabella Clara Sciacca in partnership between 4L Collection Hotels and HIA Academy, where he discussed how AI is driving hyper-personalization in hospitality, shifting luxury from material objects to poetic experiences. He highlighted three milestone projects: Sonya Hotel in Saint Petersburg (inspired by Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment), Downtown Camper in Stockholm (a family-oriented urban resort), and Niekhu Mountain Villa. The agency also designed the LEGO restaurant in Billund, Denmark. Johansen expressed a desire to create a project in Florence, where he studied art. The event also featured Mirko Lalli, CEO of The Data Appeal Company, on AI in tourism.
