Stupinigi Palace reopens two restored antechambers amid funding concerns

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-26

The Palazzina di Caccia di Stupinigi, a Savoy residence recognized by UNESCO and located near Turin, is set to reopen two antechambers of the Appartamento di Carlo Felice following a restoration grant of €350,000. President Licia Mattioli highlighted that ongoing management difficulties are complicating the search for a new director. In 2024, the site welcomed 111,000 visitors, with numbers expected to rise in 2025. However, inadequate public transport remains a significant issue, and a €20 million tram extension appears improbable. The antechambers showcase late Piedmontese Rococo art, including a frescoed ceiling from 1754 and works by Angela Maria Palanca and Pietro Domenico Olivero. Guided tours will incorporate the new areas starting December 2025, with events planned to commemorate the centenary of Queen Margherita's passing on January 6, 2026.
