Study warns co-design of LLM preference agents may fuel overtrust
A new study from arXiv (2607.21757) investigates the tension between participatory design and overtrust in LLM-based preference agents. Twelve participants co-designed personal agents for household energy preferences through surveys and interviews. While participants felt their agents represented them well, independent validation showed agents were more homogeneous, decisive, and abstract than human responses. The author argues participation and transparency can act as an "overtrust engine," masking misalignment.
