Study Pavilion in Braunschweig Wins 2024 EUmies Architecture Prize
The Study Pavilion at the Technical University of Braunschweig in Germany, designed by Berlin-based architects Gustav Düsing and Max Hack, has won the 2024 EUmies Architecture Prize. The pavilion, built for just over €5 million, is a flexible, demountable structure for education and research, designed to break down hierarchies and foster interdisciplinary exchange. It shares the podium with the Gabriel García Márquez Library in Barcelona by SUMA Arquitectura, winner of the emerging architecture category. The library, completed in 2022, was named best new public library of the year by IFLA in 2023. Both projects emphasize public function, community impact, and sustainability. The jury, chaired by Frédéric Druot, selected from 362 nominated works. Düsing and Hack, born in 1984 and 1986 respectively, are the youngest winners in the main category. The award ceremony will take place on May 14, 2024, at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona during Barcelona Architecture Week. An exhibition of the 40 shortlisted works will run at Palau Victòria Eugènia until June 26, later traveling to Madrid and Vienna.
