Studio V Architecture employees file for union election with NLRB
On April 3, 2026, employees at Studio V Architecture (SVA), located in New York City, submitted a request for certification (RC) to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) in their effort to form a union. Partnering with Architectural Workers United (AWU) of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, the group asserts they have a super majority in support of the initiative. Their demands include improved work-life balance, limits on overtime, negotiated benefits, salary increases, and a minimum wage for all positions. Management rejected a neutrality request for a card check on March 20. A vote by the NLRB is anticipated in mid-to-late May. If successful, SVA would join Sage and Coombe Architects and Bernheimer Architecture as the third private architecture firm in the U.S. to unionize. A previous attempt at Snøhetta in 2023 was unsuccessful and is currently under litigation.
