Studio Quipu: New Experimental Art Space Opens in Rome's Pigneto District

exhibition · 2026-04-27

On October 26, 2022, a new experimental art space called Studio Quipu opened in Rome's Pigneto district. Founded by street artist Carlos Atoche and photographer Emanuela Robustelli, the space is conceived as an artist's studio, exhibition venue, and hub for meetings, debates, presentations, talks, and artist residencies. The name 'Quipu' refers to the ancient South American mnemonic system used to communicate stories and collect data, which the founders believe can help people reconnect with their magical essence and rediscover the self. Studio Quipu is an expansion of Studio Sotterraneo, also in Pigneto, which focused on visual arts, live music, and theater. The new space aims to create a meeting point between art lovers and practitioners, opening the artist's studio to the public. It will host collective and solo exhibitions across disciplines including traditional art, street art, performance, new media, and installations. The space will also collaborate with students from Academies of Fine Arts and young Italian and international artists. Additionally, Studio Quipu will house the Scuola Sperimentale di Pittura Quipu, teaching painting, engraving, papier-mâché, and mosaic techniques. The address is Via Romanello da Forlì, 24, Rome.
