Studio Mo Man Tai Turns Discarded Billboards into Walk-Through Color Field at Milan Design Week 2026
During Milan Design Week 2026, Eindhoven-based studio mo man tai presents 'Re-campaign' at the Cavallerizze in the 5VIE district. The installation repurposes fifteen discarded large-scale advertising banners into a permeable gateway of fabric portals. The banners, originally engineered for maximum visibility on facades, are cut, layered, and recomposed into an environment that prioritizes movement over message. Fragments of pixels, gradients, and graphic residues remain visible, creating unstable color fields that shift with light, wind, and the presence of visitors. The project was developed in collaboration with BIG Impact and blowUP media, using recycled PET and PVC-free materials. Studio founders Ulrike Jurklies and Paul Bas state that they aim to shift perception by repositioning functional materials. The work inverts advertising logic: instead of projecting a fixed narrative outward, meaning becomes ambient and contingent. A parallel installation, 'Reflecting Diverseness' (first shown at Dutch Design Week 2025), is on view at Via Cesare Correnti 14, translating demographic data into mirrored acrylic flowers representing Milan's population. Both works transform existing material and information into participatory spatial experiences.
