Studio Lievito Unveils Marmifere: Modular Urban Furniture from Carrara's Waste Marble

architecture-design · 2026-08-19

Studio Lievito, located in Florence, has introduced Marmifere, a collection of modular urban furniture crafted from reclaimed marble waste, drawing inspiration from the Ferrovia Marmifera di Carrara railway. This design pays tribute to Ugo La Pietra and Archizoom, featuring sculptural elements intended for public areas that encourage relaxation and play. The collection consists of two modules: one resembling Ravaneti, designed with a concave side for seating and an inclined climbing wall, while the other mirrors the quarry terraces of Carrara, offering staggered seating and a climbing surface. Both modules incorporate hollow cavities that create crawl-through tunnels for children, merging industrial heritage with interactive play and reconnecting the community with Carrara's marble legacy.
