Studio La Città Opens Shop Offline in Verona

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Studio La Città, a Verona-based gallery founded in 1969 by Hélène de Franchis, has inaugurated a new project called Shop Offline within its existing spaces. The shop is conceived as a store-like area that periodically presents works by both historical and emerging artists. De Franchis explained that the idea stemmed from the gallery's lack of street-facing windows; the only visible sign is a wrought-iron 'Studio La Città' next to a large wooden door that once served as the entrance to the Galtarossa steel mill offices in the 1930s. The door opens into a hallway where two glass doors lead to the gallery and the new shop window. De Franchis aims to spark curiosity among passersby, showing that the gallery offers more than just expensive, large-scale works. The shop is styled like a home room to invite exploration. The inaugural display features works by gallery stalwarts Herbert Hamak, Jacob Hashimoto, and Hiroyuki Masuyama, alongside emerging artists Cristian Avram, Linda Carrara, and Gabriele Grones, as well as Stuart Arends, Arthur Duff, Andre Woodward, Andrea Fontanari, and Federico Seppi. The shop's offerings are independent of the ongoing exhibition, often featuring smaller works that suggest home decor ideas. Until May 4, the gallery is hosting the group show 'TORN CURTAIN. Buongiorno, buonasera,' curated by Hélène de Franchis and Luca Massimo Barbero.
