Studio La Città in Verona Celebrates 50 Years with Exhibition 'Quello che non ho venduto…'

On December 7, 2019, Galleria Studio La Città in Verona marks its 50th anniversary with a curated exhibition titled 'Quello che non ho venduto…' (What I Didn't Sell…), organized by Marco Meneguzzo. The gallery, founded by Hélène de Franchis, a Neapolitan-born gallerist, reflects on her career and the artworks she has kept. De Franchis recounts her early inspiration from Lucio Fontana, whom she met in Rome, and her close relationships with artists such as David Leverett, Richard Smith, John Hoyland, Concetto Pozzati, Igino Legnaghi, Gabriele Basilico, Ettore Spalletti, Lawrence Carroll, John McCracken, and contemporary artists like Jacob Hashimoto, Herbert Hamak, Luigi Carboni, Stuart Arends, and Emil Lukas. The exhibition is described as a self-portrait, featuring works she chose not to sell, either out of attachment or deliberate selection. De Franchis notes the radical changes in the art world over five decades, comparing her experiences to another era. She expresses a desire to continue making exhibitions that interest her and working with artists she feels affinity with, echoing her earlier show title 'Je ne regrette rien.'
