Studio Drift's kinetic installation In 20 Steps at The Abu Dhabi EDITION

The Abu Dhabi EDITION, a luxury boutique hotel by EDITION Hotels, opened in fall 2018 as the brand's Middle East debut, preceding a sister property in Dubai. Located at Al Bateen Marina on the Persian Gulf, the hotel features 198 rooms and over 50 residences, each adorned with photographs by Brett Weston capturing sand dune sinuosity. The lobby houses In 20 Steps, a kinetic environmental installation by Amsterdam-based artist duo Studio Drift, composed of twenty delicate glass wings abstractly evoking flight phases, described as a tribute to the human desire to fly and persistence against adversity. The hotel's design, by Ian Schrager Company and Wimberly Interiors, blends contemporary style with local traditional architecture. Culinary offerings include three restaurants by Michelin-starred chef Tom Aikens. The hotel is a 20-minute drive from Louvre Abu Dhabi, which attracted over one million visitors in its first year. The property targets a new generation of travelers for tourism, leisure, and business.
