Studio Drift and BMW to Debut 300-Drone Flock Over Miami Beach
During Art Basel in Miami Beach back in 2017, the BMW Group introduced "FRANCHISE FREEDOM," a flying sculpture crafted by Studio Drift in partnership with BMW. This exciting event, scheduled for December 6 at 9 PM, will feature 300 glowing drones simulating a bird flock over the ocean, specifically between 32nd and 33rd Street, right behind the Faena Hotel Miami Beach. It's the first time a large group of drones will operate using decentralized algorithms. Inspired by the mesmerizing patterns of starling murmurations, this installation explores the tension between personal freedom and communal safety. Since 2007, Studio Drift has been studying natural flight movements and has developed specialized drone software for this project. The private launch will be on December 6, with more shows planned throughout the week, weather permitting.
