Studio Bucky wraps Cucu cabin in red-stained shingles in rural Ireland

architecture-design · 2026-04-25

Studio Bucky, based in New York, has completed an off-grid cabin named Cucu for the rental brand Samsú, situated in the tranquil woods of Westmeath, Ireland. The cabin features red-stained shingles that slope along its walls, reminiscent of local agricultural structures and metal roofs. Inside, the layout is square, accommodating a cozy seating area, a kitchen, a log-burning stove, and a bathroom with a sliding door. A ladder leads to a mezzanine sleeping space with a circular window that frames the natural surroundings. Red accents enhance the plywood interiors, and a custom copper roll-top bath is located on the deck. Founder Alexander Buckeridge, who established Studio Bucky in 2024, drew inspiration from traditional Irish tower houses to create a distinctive experience. Cucu is fully off-grid, utilizing solar power and a composting eco-toilet. Photography credits go to Jasmine Hughes.
