Studio Banana's Loops kinetic installation at Bern University Hospital
Studio Banana has created Loops, a kinetic installation for the Inselspital, Bern University Hospital, one of Switzerland's largest hospitals. The work consists of 24 luminous rings that float gently in the air, performing perpetual movements that compose an infinite variety of nature-inspired forms. Measuring up to 21 meters in height, 6 meters in width, and 8 meters in length, Loops contrasts with the orthogonal structure of the hospital atrium. The installation was developed in close collaboration between designers and hospital staff. It is visible from multiple perspectives across the building's five floors, offering different interpretations simultaneously. The piece aims to discreetly entertain visitors while respecting the unique hospital environment.
