Studio 53 Arte in Rovereto Shows Depero, Garbari, Melotti

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Studio 53 Arte in Rovereto presents a group exhibition featuring works by Fortunato Depero, Tullio Garbari, and Fausto Melotti, temporarily compensating for the closure of MART due to pandemic restrictions. The show is organized by three curators, each producing a dedicated catalog. Depero's works span from the 1920s onward, highlighting his transition from 'mechanical art' to 'urban simultaneity,' exemplified by 'Big Sale' (1929). Other pieces include 'Gara ippica tra le nubi' (1924), 'Scarabeo veneziano (Il gondoliere)' (1927), 'Paesaggio alpestre cristallizzato (lunare)' (1936), 'Natura morta accesa' (1936), 'Donne al tropico' (1945), and 'Piante grasse (Vaso di fiori)' (1946). Garbari, described by Carlo Belli as a 'master of life and art,' divided his time between Pergine and Paris, also staying in Florence, Milan, Rome, and Venice. His philosophical dialogue with Jacques Maritain influenced his theology, and many works from 1919–1927 are previously unpublished. Melotti's pieces include the early 'Paradiso' (1957), a two-level terracotta with six polychrome figures, and 'Geisha con il cappello a foggia di giudizio di Paride' (1980). Other works like 'Le scale di Giacobbe' (1974), 'Il canto di Femio' (1966), 'Senza titolo 4B' (1964), and 'La salita dell'Olimpo' (1979) emphasize verticality with stairs and spirals.
