Stroboskop: A New Independent Art Space in Warsaw

Stroboskop, an independent exhibition space in Warsaw, was founded by Franciszek Buchner, Agnieszka Delman, Norbert Delman, and Jan Słoniewski. The founders come from diverse backgrounds: Agnieszka is a theatre producer, Jan a lawyer, while Norbert and Franek are artists. Located in a former communist-era garage in central Warsaw, the space aims to provide a platform for young artists under 30 to experiment freely, away from institutional constraints and commercial galleries. Stroboskop operates on a barter system, offering space and logistical support without claiming rights over works or mediating sales. Artists are selected via open calls or personal research during travels and residencies. The founders acknowledge that while Warsaw has seen a rise in private galleries, independent and underground spaces remain weak compared to other European capitals. They believe more such initiatives would make the city's art scene more vital. Regarding the future, they remain open to all possibilities, including evolving into a gallery or being led by others. They note that Polish art is currently at a high level but faces potential challenges due to the recent victory of the ultra-conservative right wing in Poland, hoping that contemporary art can continue to thrive without restrictions.
