Street Artists Interpret Ferragamo's Iconic Shoes in Bonito Exhibition
In Bonito, the birthplace of Salvatore Ferragamo in Avellino province, the exhibition 'Impronte' opens July 27 at the Convento Francescano di Sant'Antonio, running through August 31. Organized by the Collettivo Boca and the Comune di Bonito, with support from the Museo Salvatore Ferragamo in Florence, the show features five iconic shoes from the 1930s and 1940s, representing Ferragamo's craftsmanship and Italian design history. Five street artists—Tellas, Gola Hundun, Milu Correch, Giulio Vesprini, and Millo—created public murals on buildings in the town center, each drawing inspiration from a specific Ferragamo shoe. Gola Hundun focused on the 1938 rhinoceros-horn-tipped model, reflecting his animal-themed work; Millo was inspired by the sandal made for Judy Garland, using vibrant colors against his black-and-white graphic style; Milu Correch chose a hand-painted wedge sandal with floral motifs, aligning with her floral and feminine imagery; Tellas explored a painted canvas bootie with leaf patterns, continuing his nature-themed investigations; and Giulio Vesprini, known for geometric and color-balanced compositions, took inspiration from the 1941 Diva sandal with multicolored suede straps. The exhibition celebrates Ferragamo's legacy as an artisan-artist who emigrated to the US in 1915, became famous among Hollywood stars, and later returned to Italy to found his fashion house.
