Street Artist Vexta Returns to New York with New Murals

Sydney-born, self-taught street artist Vexta has resumed large-scale mural work in New York City. Known for her psychedelic, kaleidoscopic style, she blends figurative motifs with symbolic and geometric forms, exploring themes of cosmology, mythology, life and death, and the feminine. Vexta began street art in the mid-2000s with stencils and abandoned building interventions. In 2008, Banksy invited her to exhibit in London, which spurred her to travel globally painting murals. She moved to New York in 2012 and now splits her time between Brooklyn and Tulum, Mexico. Her latest piece, "Nocturnal Nature," celebrates nature's ability to heal and nourish, coinciding with spring blooms and New Yorkers emerging from the pandemic. She describes it as a "joyful explosion of color" and a declaration of resilience, vulnerability, and trust in the natural world. Vexta has exhibited at the National Gallery of Australia and Banksy's Cans Festival, and her work is in public, academic, and private collections worldwide. She has collaborated with Converse, Governors Ball Music Festival, Urban Decay, Juxtapoz Magazine, and Samsung. Her preferred New York neighborhoods for painting include Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Bushwick, and the Lower East Side, where she finds strong community support for street art.
