Street art on the Via Francigena: Lazio funds spiritual routes with contemporary art
Lazio has allocated €1.38 million for its 'Art and Itineraries of Spirituality' program, aimed at integrating contemporary art into historic pilgrimage routes like the Via Francigena, Cammino di San Francesco, and Cammino di San Benedetto. Each initiative can receive up to €90,000. Nine towns have won funding, including Artena, Grotte di Castro, and Trevi nel Lazio. Specifically, €180,000 is set aside for the northern Via Francigena, benefiting Vetralla and Grotte di Castro. Vetralla will work with artist Angelo Russo, while Grotte di Castro, which has around 3,000 residents by Lake Bolsena, has launched the 'Segni' project to create two artworks inspired by the ancient Etruscan site of Civita, led by artists Corn79 and Luca Font. Completion is expected soon.
