The 2020 Gwacheon Project competition at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Korea has named stpmj as the winning design firm. This New York and Seoul-based company, founded by architects Seung Teak Lee and Mi Jung Lim, was chosen from four finalists by a jury of academics, critics, and journalists. Their concept, titled The Surface, features approximately 700 interactive elements that resemble lotus leaves, umbrellas, and tree canopies, which will be installed on the grassy slopes surrounding the MMCA Gwacheon site. This installation will be open to the public from September 2020 to May 2021.
