Stop-motion film 'My Life as a Courgette' explores childhood resilience
Claude Barras's stop-motion film 'My Life as a Courgette' (original French title 'Ma vie de Courgette') tells the story of a nine-year-old boy living in a foster home with other children from troubled backgrounds. The film, based on Gilles Paris's novel 'Autobiography of a Courgette', took two years to produce, requiring 60 sets, 54 plasticine puppets, and three types of costumes. Despite its difficult subject matter, the film maintains a light and hopeful tone, focusing on friendship and kindness. It was acclaimed at festivals including Cannes, Annecy, and San Sebastián. The screenplay was co-written by Céline Sciamma, known for her films 'Tomboy', 'Girlhood', and 'Being 17'. The film features a song by Sophie Hunger. In Italy, it was released on November 24, 2016, by Teodora Film.
