Stop-motion animation on human skin using 3D printing

digital · 2026-04-27

London-based creative agency DBLG, in collaboration with animation studio Animade, created a stop-motion video titled 'Hey Pressto' to celebrate its tenth anniversary. The project uses 3D-printed stencils applied to the skin of eight models (four men and four women) to animate characters frame by frame. Body parts like buttocks, nipples, and hair become integrated with the animated subjects, which are temporary marks that gradually fade. The video transforms actors into spaces where actions unfold, while 3D-printed silhouettes become frames that structure the narrative and convey vitality. A behind-the-scenes video details the production process.
