Steven Spielberg directs first music video 'Cannibal' for Marcus Mumford using a smartphone

Steven Spielberg, the 76-year-old Oscar-winning director of Jaws, Schindler's List, and Saving Private Ryan, has directed his first music video for Marcus Mumford's song 'Cannibal,' from the singer's self-titled album releasing September 16. The four-minute black-and-white video features Mumford seated on a stage playing guitar, with the camera slowly pulling back and then zooming in as the rhythm changes. Spielberg reportedly shot the entire video using a smartphone in a New York school gymnasium, assisted by his wife Kate Capshaw as producer, art director, and dolly grip. Carey Mulligan, Mumford's wife and Oscar-nominated actress, handled costumes and sound. The video marks Spielberg's directorial debut in the music video format, though he previously appeared in Michael Jackson's 'Liberian Girl' video alongside John Travolta, Whoopi Goldberg, Quincy Jones, David Copperfield, and Corey Feldman. In Italy, music videos have been officially recognized as artworks since 2020 by Minister Dario Franceschini.
