Steven Durland, artista versatile, scrittore, redattore e organizzatore culturale, è morto l'11 marzo all'età di 75 anni a Saxapahaw, Carolina del Nord, secondo quanto comunicato dalla sua compagna, Linda Frye Burnham. Nato nel 1951 a Long Beach, California, è cresciuto nel South Dakota. Durland ha diretto la rivista High Performance dal 1986 al 1994, presentando artisti di rilievo come Nancy Buchanan e Carolee Schneemann. Ha conseguito un BFA presso l'Università del South Dakota e un MFA presso l'Università del Massachusetts Amherst. Durland è stato determinante nella fondazione del 18th Street Arts Center e di Highways Performance Space, e ha co-curato The Citizen Artist nel 1998. La sua ultima mostra personale, Inflation Gauge, si è tenuta a gennaio. Lascia la compagna Burnham, i loro cani, fratelli e figliastri.
