Steve McQueen's Year 3: 3,000 Class Photos at Tate Britain

Steve McQueen's monumental installation 'Year 3' opens at Tate Britain's Duveen Galleries, featuring approximately 3,000 class photographs of third-year students from over 1,500 London primary schools. The project, which began in 2018, involved a team of artists, photographers, and curators visiting schools to capture the images. The photos are displayed in grids of 12x5, 12x8, 12x9, or 12x35, creating vast abstract-like compositions. Each class received creative workshops, a guided museum visit, and will keep their photo after the exhibition ends in January 2021. McQueen describes the work as both a telescope and a microscope, reflecting the diversity of London's schoolchildren.
